Israel - 1 Agora (1985-1991) [solved]

13 posts • viewed 190 times
Hello,

looking at my coins, I've noticed there are two types of font for this coin and I haven't found any reference to it.
Here are the photos of the 5745 (1985) & 5746 (1986) coins (the close-up is a superimposed image for comparison).

Hi,

are you sure that ALL the coins from 5745 and 5746 correspond to only one of the two different types?
Are the years from 5746 to 5751 corresponding to the 5746 type?

Anyway a nice find, specially if the 2 types are mixed also in the same year8)

How are the corresponding Hanukka coins from those two years?

Ole

Take care
To my sorrow, I have only 3 of this type, so that no real analysis is possible.

Looking now at the three above: they are all the same font-wise. Here is the difference I was talking about:

Hi,
I checked my coins and found out that most of the coins I have are type one from 1985 and 1986 (15 coins from each type). Type 2 coins I founs in all years from 1986 till 1989 (total 14 coins of type 2).
On 1985 and 1986 these coins were minted in Shtugart and in Paris (On 1986 also in Jerusalem).
From 1987 the coin was minted only in Jerusalem, and all my coins from those years are type 2.
Thanks a lot for that information. I'll add it to the documentation.

Do you know how to distinguish the mint characteristics for the 3 mints?

Only the fact that Jerusalem mint is type 2.
I searched Israeli coin sites but could not find any info on that.
