Notgeld

Has anyone have knowledge of some of the German notgeld series being reprints of the originals
one of the dealers I have bought from advertises his listings as “not certified”
You would think that with the relatively low retail price of the German series especially would not be worthwhile.especially when most sets have special paper, watermarked and often embossed
However it does appear that several issuers were printing off sets for collectors, and it is difficult to find these issues used or slightly worn
it would appear from Numista figures that very few collectors are interested in them, which astounds me as they are in most cases unique and beautiful
I have not heard of this reprinting.
I actually love collecting the German Notgeld and have over 2,000 of them from many different issuers.
I like the themes, the stories and the colouring.
I believe there are over 29,000 of them, although thousands do not seem to be owned by anyone.
Most of mine have come through swaps.
I'm just a collector of coins, not a slave to it, unless I am in a coin shop.

Hi Coinman Thankyou for your reply- I very much enjoy these Notgeld notes, but it amazes me that so few NUMISTA traders tend to have them
I have over 1100 of them and love them, however i do struggle with identfying some issues, and several are not yet on NUMISTA

muzz0000,
I do not keep my banknote collection on Numista, so use Colnect, which I think has a far better system of cataloguing banknotes, especially German Notgeld.
Numista catalogue by state, but Colnect catalogue by issuing town/city thus making it easier to find.

Try this link. When you find Germany, touch on "down arrow" to the right to see list and you will see German Notgeld. Be a bit careful as Baden and Rheinland are listed as separate countries, which I am trying to get changed, but administrators are not listening.

https://colnect.com/en/banknotes/countries

Baden is listed under German States, whereas Rheinland is listed in the full country index

Thankyou Geoff is it possible to transfer collection to connect and vica versa

Murray
Murray,
As far as I am aware, the two systems are completely different, so you will have to enter them one at a time, but when you look at the Colnect website, you could enter each issuer in alphabetical order, which would be less time consuming.
You may also have noted that each individual banknote has its own page.

If you have your own Excel spreadsheet with the catalogue numbers on it, this will be a great advantage.
See how you get on, it may not be as bad as you think. You can download a spreadsheet from Numista.
You can also add your swaps at the same time.

Hope this helps

Hi Geoff ---Thankyou for your help with this, it seems like a big mission but i will have a go at it
Is there any reason why you could not have both?

Stay well and safe

Murray
Murray,
Colnect had the banknote section years before Numista caught up with them, but by then, my collection, as it stood at the time, was already on Colnect.
When I saw the shambles of how Numista was listing the banknotes, especially the German Notgeld section, I decided I would keep my banknotes on Colnect and coins on Numista.
All works reasonably well except when you what to do an exchange, as you have to cross reference between the two websites, but I am used to it now.
I also have my own personal excel spreadsheets for my coins and banknotes, but again kept separately.
The coin spreadsheet has been going for longer than I can remember, but the banknote spreadsheet is only 10 years old. These are very handy for cross reference too
