Hi, has anyone else came across any predecimal Irish coins with 1690 (year of the Battle of the Boyne) stamped on them. I found one the other day and was wondering if anybody has any information about how common this practice was? Apparently there are also British coins with IRA stamped over the queen's portrait but I don't have any of these.

Sorry about the quality. The coin is also holed in another attempt at defacing it

Yes the stamp in that photo looks the very same as mine, only mine is also holed. My coin is an Irish Free State Pingin from 1937. From what I have read online they were defaced during the troubles in the 1960s when the Punt and Sterling were equivalent and the coinage would have circulated in both Éire and the UK. Does anyone else have any?

Yes, they are some more interesting examples from a regrettable period of Irish history.

While going through the Forum I found this topic. I was surprised, as I didnt realize those organizations did this. The U.V.F. stands for the Ulster Volunteer Force. The coins were in response to other countermarked coins by the Irish Republican Army.I found this in a bulk bin for a quarter.
Pretty cool!

Ahoj
And have a nice day everyone.
Originally I wanted to create joy for Irish enthusiasts, I was sorry to destroy the
Irish coin. So I gave an aluminum sheet to show.
I wanted to add, Belfast, or IRA, etc.)
,, It as I have such a disease so I have perverted humor and tell everyone the truth what I think and so-I'm just dangerous and humorous,,
Thank you for the type, I immediately went to the workshop to preserve old-fashioned, punch numbers and letters what I have after my ancestors, I just forgot about them and they need to preserve with oil.

On the topic of political counterstamps, back in 2014 my friend found a HK$ 20 banknote in circulation with the words 我要真普選 stamped on the watermark window. It means "I want real universal suffrage" and is related to the 2014 Umbrella Revolution protests.
He apparently put it back into circulation despite me offering HK$ 50 for it. I never forgave him for that.

I also currently have a Chinese banknote with a political stamp on it related to the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners in China.
