Austrian coin mintage

Hello,

I noticed there is a discrepancy between the mintage on the Numista page for N#59 and the document on the website of the Austrian Mint https://www.muenzeoesterreich.at/content/download/248781/file/Euro%20Pr%C3%A4gemengen%202002%20bis%202021.pdf

For example, for year 2002, the Numista page indicates a mintage of 217 100 000 coins for circulation + 100 000 coins in set + 10 000 proof coins.

The Austrian Mint just indicates a mintage of 217 000 000.

One possible explanation is that the document from the Austrian Mint shows only the mintage of coins issued for circulation (217 000 000) and that there was an additional 100 000 coins in sets and 10 000 proof coins. In that case, Numista is incorrect in showing 217 100 000 + 100 000 + 10 000 instead of 217 000 000 + 100 000 + 10 000 (which could be explained by the fact the the lines for the set and the proof were added much later than the first line, which may have been originally intended for the total mintage).

Another explanation could be that the document from the Austrian Mint counts all the coins issued in all types of packaging and strikes. In that case Numista should show 216 890 000 + 100 000 + 10 000 (assuming that the quantity for the set and the proof are correct).

Does anyone have more information about the mintage quantity of Austrian euro coins?

In the Leuchturn Euro Katalogus that I have got (2018 edition) it has this information for the 2002 Austrian 5 euro cent coin.

(My copy is the Dutch version)

On page 432

Jaar     Oplage

2002     217,000,000    <<<<< This is obviously the circulation figure

On page 435 it mentions Koermuntensets

2002    100,000 <<<< This must be the BU or Uncirculated Mint Sets

It has pictures of some of the sets.

On page 436 it also mentions more Koersmuntensets

2002    10,000  <<<< This must be the Proof Sets

There are also pictures of the proof sets.

So the total mintage would be 217,110.000.

A similar scenario would apply to the other denominations I would suspect.

In the Australian section we would show these on separate mintage lines.

It would appear to me that the 217,100,000 on the mintage line for the circulation coins is a mistake.

Cheers Mike
