How much coins can Lighthouse slipcase hold?

8 posts • viewed 162 times

I need a 3 ring binder to hold my coin flip sleeves (20 coins per page). I need to hold 100 pages all full with coins. I need to buy multiple binders, so it will be very expensive. Anyone have one of these normal size Lighthouse slipcases? How much pages can it hold when full of coins?

Just buy Lighthouse Grande and coin pages. Pages are made from PET, which is superhard plastic. There is no need to save money on storage in numismatics. I threw away the whole album of banknotes once because i was “smart” and stored them in cheap PVC pages.

Yeah, I want the best storage. I do have the Lighthouse flips, and pvc and acid free pages for flips (BCW brand). But they only fit 3 ringed binders

Lighthouse albums are basically glorified 3 ring binders, with chrome-plated rings with cheap plastic underneath.

HoH

Hi,

the important thing is the material that touches or comes close to the coins, so at least the 2x2 holders + most probably the plastic pages they are kept in. For the binders as such it is only a question on the overall look and feel of your collection.

I decided to invest in the best stuff for the first part and have the sheets stored in regular and cheap binders you get in office supply shops for 1 or 2 Euros over here. That saves a lot of money when not buying those Lighthouse albums as such - for me even more so, as in the meantime I need some 80 binders….

Best wishes

in the end everything will be good - if it's not good, then it's not the end...

Their website states that these binders are designed to hold 10 pages for 200 coins. Could you squeeze a few more pages in?  Yes, but that depends largely on the type of coins you are storing. Pennies, Pounds, Dollars, etc ? Diameter, thickness, and weight should be considered.  Of course the binders would hold many more pages if you are storing lightweight and very thin banknotes.  For the implied 2,000 coins you want to store, you are obviously  going to need quite a few of these binders. If it helps, I just go to the office supply and buy school type binders. They don't look as nice but they do the job without spending so much money for appearances.

I actually second Harrys opinion of storing coins in office binders. Makes sense financially in terms of not overspending on albums and still being good enough.

But dont save money on coin storage plastic sheets, especially with coin materials like bronze, copper, brass which are highly sensitive to chemicals. PVC pages kill bronze like nothing, same goes with brass.

However, when storing banknotes, better quality albums are better option. They minimize exposure to humidity, light, pests, rats etc. In general, storing banknotes is way harder job.

Thank you everyone 🙂. I will have a look at cheaper ones. I also read that the outside “leather” has pvc in it. Even if it's not touching the coins. I don't like knowing that there is pvc close.
