2009 R5 coin South Africa - colouring [solved]

I recently obtained this coin  when receiving change in a shop.

It has very unusual colouring. 

Is this an error or is it just dirty?

Not an error. Simple environmental effect to the Cu/Ni outer ring. What caused it is anybody's guess.

Just a pretty dirty coin - worth 5 Rand.
