Australia are issuing a set of dollars representing each team in the NRL, as a rugby league fan I can’t wait

I am surprised they are using the memorial effigy  obverse and not the new regular obverse- the  Charles portrait   premiered last year and  ,as far as I know , has already been released in to circulation, after all .

It seems the coins were designed and minted before they got the all clear to use the King Charles III portrait on the obverse. They have been sitting in a bin at the RAM waiting for this release in late March 2024. They have used the QE II Memorial obverse and I hope this will be the last time it is used.

The 2024 Uncirculated  Mint and Proof sets for 2024 have not been released yet. But someone with a very good camera has seen one of the proof 50 cent coins at the mint viewing area and it has King Charles III on the obverse.

Another one, how many rugby permutations are there. More Bubblegum and basic boring designs for the masses.

Rugby league was formed in northern England so that mill workers would not lose money by playing the game, it was originally called the Northern union and spread from there. My team St Helen’s was one of the original clubs in the northern union, it spread to australia and New Zealand who sadly are both now better than England. Looking forward to getting the set especially the Sydney Roosters coin as they are my favourite Aussie team

That obverse should have been retired last year!

I think it is downright disrespectful towards His Majesty the King himself!

Aidan.

Seems our Kiwi cousins are getting upset again because Australia is issuing more coins for collectors that are affordable and interesting.

Just wait until April when there is another set of AFL coins going to be released. More bubblegum boring coins as one of our Kiwi mates calls them.

For those that don't know there are two different types of Rugby Football. The one most people would have seen is Rugby Union. It is played in quite a lot of countries in the world. It has 15 players in each team. The best most consistent team are the New Zealand All Blacks.

The other version is called Rugby League which is played mostly in Australia & Northern England. It has 13 players in each team. The best most consistent team are the Australian Kangaroos.

Rugby League has always been the Professional version and Union was the Amateur version. Although nowadays Union is also Professional.

This set of Australian coins is commemorating teams from the Australian National Rugby League (NRL) competition. It is known as “The Greatest Game of All”.  Rugby Union is known as “The Game they play in Heaven”.

I have now added all the $1 coins to Numista and will update the reverse pics when I get my hands on a set of the coins.

Another difference is that our two countries, in one you can express an opinion and not get attacked. If the designs were interesting, then it would be better, but these are dull as dishwater.

Bubblegum is what they are, you may be in favour. However many collectors are hartfully tired of the Woolworths mint.

lol .. you are the one always whinging and whining about Australian coin releases, If you don't like them scroll on by and don't bother to comment. We won't miss you as we enjoy our coins that encourage collecting and make life interesting. Must be extremely boring over the ditch with what you get from the NZ Government in the form of coins. When was the last commemorative NZ coin released into circulation? Actually when was the last actual coin issued into circulation? 2020 or something like that. Now that is what I would call Dull as Dishwater.

Mike,

Enough of attacking me over New Zealand's issuing policy. We issue tonnes of overpriced NCLT which covers every tinpot topic you could think of, birds, sports, movies, royalty, Maori themes and the whole nine yards. I agree a circulating commem would be nice, but since everything we issue is made overseas, we come far down the line. At least you Aussies have an inhouse design and production team. Its designed in Australia and minted in Australia, not when Ottawa or Llantrisant gets the time.

I don't care - I collect Australian coins and have a pretty amazing collection if I do say so.

Its a free world, I can and will post my opinion where and when I feel like.

Do you live in North Korea or Russia, where any form of free expression is banned. Last time I looked, Australia had a progressive left wing Prime Minister - not a useless neo liberal money consortium like here or a dictatorship.

I love coins

I'm not attacking you personally, I was commenting on your dislike of our lovely bubblegum coins. But don't worry there are plenty more coming for you to dislike. 😬

I am just doing what you do ….. “Its a free world, I can and will post my opinion where and when I feel like.” 😉

Also regarding our “progressive left wing Prime Minister” … I think he is a tool 🤮 and his government are an absolute useless waste of space.

He blew 400 million dollars of taxpayers money on a useless referendum that 60% of the country rejected even though he was warned it would fail abysmally. 😟

Anyway take care and don't be too hard on the next bubblegum release. More AFL coins .. Even I think they are going over the top with that one. 🙃

If it helps, I like the new set of 2024 showing the Queens head and Charles on the $2 coin.

Seems we are again opposites politically. I would have voted for the Yes campaign, the way aborigines are treated there is a global shame. If the Maori were treated here like Aborigines are there, there would be blood in the streets and a race war. I am died in the wool Labour socialist borderlining onto peoples communism.

Maoris are basically protected here and rightfully so. Equality of all the peoples is my goal.

It would appear that we have hostilities between our antipodean members 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
