1884 Silver Japanese Yen?

9 posts

I have had this 1884 Meiji Period Japanese Yen for some time now and it is supposed to be 90% silver. However, recently I bought a silver testing magnet and it has shown that the coin is not silver. The coin has all the right dimensions and is coin alignment which is what it should be and everything looks genuine, but I'm starting to think that it may just be a very good replica. What do you think? Has anyone had the same problem?

Thanks
Have you tried weighing it, as personally I wouldn't trust a silver testing magnet.
You could try the icecube test too.
I am sorry to say that this coin is a fake.
This is definitely a fake, hands down.

Nice collection but what does it have to do with a fake Japanese yen?

 First thing to always test!
Taking a break from swapping for a while, but still interested in pre 1799 Spanish coins, I will make time for that!

Looking for pre 1783 coins
The coin is a fake.

Try your new silver detecting device on other coins that you are sure about them just to be skillful.
