After the events that happened in the last couple months, it is obvious that the Numista team is in need of reform. Here is the organized, hierarchical structure that I propose:
Level One: XavierHead of website
As you can see, this is not a revolution. Xavier created this website, and he should remain in charge.
Level Two [All under Xavier] "Numista Council": SmartOneKg:Head of English catalogBam777Head English forum moderatorFaëleCo-head French Forum Moderatortichat40Co-head French Forum Moderator7475laurentHead of French catalogdptashnyEnglish Co-Assistant AdministratorimrehEnglish Co-Assistant Administrator; Numista's Official VisionaryJedsadaHead of Numisdoc (I would like to add one or two French Assistant Administrators, please let me know who you think would do well with this job).
The Numista Council is, for the most part, in charge of Numista. Their majority vote can only be vetoed by Xavier. All members of the Numista Council who know how to program (there should really be more of those) will have access to a COPY of Numista's source code and will be able to SUGGEST edits to Xavier to fix bugs and add new features.
Level Three: All current French catalog moderators (under 7475laurent) All current English catalog moderators (under SmartOneKg) All current English forum moderators (under Bam777)
Could someone please explain what is the job of the "referee"? I've seen a few people's profiles have phrases like "Numista referee for Canadian coins" etc. Are these people elected by the Numista members? Or are they named by the Numista higher staff?
Now, we have very bad-working system:
- problems with messages
- problem with censorship
As a consequence - angry users and failed exchanges
We can suggest how to change the situation together (TOGETHER!) discuss it and save Numista
or we can delete all the threads, pretend that all is well and lose site forever.
Matter what path we choose depends on the future of the site.
I am not able to see nor understand any immediate alarm or in fact any problems with this site What is wrong guys? I might have only been on this site for just over half a year but I do not see any problems with swaps or communication. There is just one user with these troubles (he keeps posting it on the forum).... but that's all!
Someone get me up to date please with any problems on the site.. if any?

The main problem - it stubbornly some comrades and lack of desire to solve problems together.

Thanks a lot,
Tom Wolf
Referee is someone who has expertese and the relevant catalogues for a certain country's coins to be able to check and validate or change new coin entries for their nominated country
I like this proposition, it's a lot like the US system of government and it helps tackle some of the bigger issues of the site. But it can be improved.

I am one of the few it seems that is and always has been happy with the current situation on Numista, except of course at the moment the long absence times of Xavier and the inability to fix current problems on Numista.
In that sense there certainly needs to be changes made in the current power to change and fix things for some of the Numista moderators.
New moderators could be a good thing for Numista but these have to be chosen well, there seems to be a lot of demand for these positions, but at the moment I only see very few of those as potential moderators.
I would add a maximum of two new moderators, as forum sites with too many moderators usually go into chaos.
Cheers from Japan,
Paul

Referee system doesn't work if the referee disappears. In the case of the UK that's exactly what happened ! I messaged Xavier volunteering to take the UK, Channel Islands and all territories on but heard nothing back. If anything it's a shame for all of you because I would go through correcting problems and adding new coins daily more than likely.
The Referee system is still in a testing period as it is still rather new. I am sure that soon non responding referees will lose their role as a referee. As referees we have received the duty and task to take care of changes or new entries within 2 weeks time, if some cannot follow they should not be referees.

I agree with apuking with the issue of too few team members. The best members, in my experience, aren't the one's who just like a certain country (referees), but follow the catalogue and understand the functions of the website. I can name a few members who would be great team members, and a few who have good potential as referee (looking at you Mark).

This is a very fun topic, truly...
for all knowledge, the team has been created long long time ago (in a far far away galaxy in a time when numista was so fun and people enjoyed it and members were happy on it and not complaining...). Everyone has always been welcome to get into the team... ever. Door has always be open very very open.
see differences, this are people who disappear of the team some time not even letting anyone know they were not working anymore....
Reorganization is so not old we had no time to make the 2 pages both correct.
And some of the "new" page already dissapear...
Let us laught

Oh yes, by the way, the organization of the nusmita team is more or less already what you suggest ! we have a team forum in which we discuss our decision.
Hopefully we have no "Numista's Official Visionary" - Ouf !
Don't think I'm picking on you for this and the other post but I've just read this again and why would you be the self elected English admin ? I believe Ben should fit into that category given his current duties anyway. Either way this site is how it is and nothings gunna change. We get promised things and they don't happen and if they do it takes forever.
Wouldn't it be a little strange if I created this idea, and I wasn't on the team? My idea for an assistant admin would be someone who helps Xavier with all those Numista jobs. Plus I can program, that would be a big help to Numista! I think imreh has been stressing very important points and is really making an effort to help Numista. And I know he wants to join the team!

You want to slightly change the structure of Numista's management, claim it as your own idea and proclaim yourself as 2IC? You can't be serious.

Are you blind? There's a lot of problems in Numista currently, in the French forum, more than 10 members are complaining about the fact they can't send messages anymore.
I did a post where I exposed the problems I met. Laurent told me to wait for Xavier's return.
Okay, I can wait, we ALL can wait as it's not just an issue for me.
By the way, you can see on "home" of Numista, that Bam posted a note, where he says that 'cause of the bugs on that site, we should not modify any coins.
Xavier is absent for a good reason, and Numista' team is not able to solve the bugs.
Actually, I truly think Numista is not going well and that makes everybody sad.
For instance, in December, I had the agreement from CATAWIKI to give us any photos we want.
Did I do this for nothing?
We can't add photos (I tried) from Catawiki as Xavier is not there. I don't understand why there's nobody who's capable to do that in the team when Xavier is absent for example.

I didn't say I didn't want you on the team. I just thought it was a bit presumptuous to be assigning yourself a role when you weren't even on the team to begin with. New team members, like everywhere else in life, should start at the bottom of the pile until they prove their ability and then move up the rankings according to their ability.

I agree with you, but on the team, there's some members who did not start at the bottom. That's a fact!

Thanks for your recognition.
Quote: dptashnyAnd I know he wants to join the team!
That is a misunderstanding. I do NOT want to join the "team"!
More precisely, I do not want to join a "bunch of individuals" without any alignment, direction and leadership; and the situation will NOT change by nicely restructuring "middle management" as long as there is no leader, the venture is hopeless!
I appreciate and honestly value your drive and motivation to improve the site and certainly wish you success!
I can be supportive of you as a Numista member (level 5? ), but no other useless responsibility , please!

p.s. I have to say the title you have invented for me, "Numista's Official Visionary" is really stupid, but it does have a certain charm, thanks, but no!
