Circulating euro coins in the single states

6 posts
Hi, in addition to the canonical coins of 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50 euro cents and 1 and 2 euro bimetallic there are various states that mint coins 1½, 2½, 3, 5, 10 etc etc € for example, that are used in normal internal circulation.
I would like, if possible, make a list of these coins with your help

Thank you

:snif: but they don't circulate at all, so you'll not find them except at coin dealers:8D

The odd denominated Portuguese do circulate at times. They are even available from the mint for face value.

In France, some of them you also get a face value, but they still don't circulate. OK, it might happen, that a child gets hold of one somehow and will try to use it in a shop, but most of the times the coin will be refused by the cassier, since those coins are "unknown" to non collectors!

At a certain time in france we had silver 50 francs, and I got hold of one once in a supermarket. The guy in front of me (a wino) wanted to pay with it and the lady at the cash register refused it, so I exchanged it with him for a 50 franc note. But that's really the exception! It has happened ONCE during the 26 years I have lived here!

I used to pay with local € 5 coins sometimes but most of cashiers didn't recognice them at all. They accepted them anyway. Only problem was when my bank refused to take them at all. Luckily I had another account in different bank so I took them there.

By the way, € 5 coins are no longer available at face value in Finland as the mint has to add tax for them.
