Yes, I collect banknotes, but only have a few. My favourites are my WWII prisoner of war notes. A guy who brought them back from Germany in 1945, gave them to me when he retired from work in the 1970's.
I also have a POW note, German origin, from WWI. Swapped it for some football programs. I think I got the best deal but the other guy thought he did so we both gained something.
I'm just a collector of coins, not a slave to it, unless I am in a coin shop.
For all you banknote collectors. Link to my swap list.

Banknotes is my secondary collection. I'm not as active with it as coins. I have just over 500 notes from 142 countries but mainly cheap ones. My most expensive with the value of $20 is US $20 dollars note. :-)
I kind of have 3 goals with notes at the moment:
1) At least one from each country (just building up country count)
2) Architecture: anything with buildings, various landmark structures, etc.
3) Animals: those that were meant to be on the note (excluding small ones on coats of arms, holograms, etc.)
Here is my collection on
Colnect.

Yes, I do!
I have about 1,500 notes from almost 200 countries. And just like I am trying to do with my coins, I am trying to get one note from each existing country - at the same time I'm trying to complete sets at get "all the good ones"
You can find my whole collection
here.
I will also try to continue to add them all on my
banknotebank account, but I haven't been active there in ages.

I am keeping any note that for some reason end on my hands, I would love to collect them, but that would need an extra investment since coins are already taking a big part of my wage.
For example, one set of banknotes of my country (2, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100) would cost 48,50 USD of face value.
Just wondering about the sets of other countries...

I also collect banknotes. Collection is 1,700+

Nice map, where's that from?
Not catalogued any of my notes yet, not quite decided where to log them.

I'm not an expert in any kind of coins, but I reckon I'm good at research and will do my best to help. Feel free to tell me my identifications/valuations/gradings are wrong. It's the only way I'll learn.

I have bank notes. I don't make a point to buy them often but I do like them. Sometimes certain colonies didn't issue coins so I will buy the notes for them.

Coins are enough for me. My plan is to send all the notes I receive annually (at 1/2 their collectors value) to a loving home in exchange for some coins. I will post on Numista about November.

Hey Peter! No need to "send" them - I can come and pick them up!
Seriously though, keep me in mind when/if you decide to part with them.

I have a couple of random notes from countries not in your list Derf, do the customs also open standard letters or is it everything from outside the country ?
Cape Verdi, Kenya & Scotland, only gap fillers as circulated but adds another 3 to the list.

Yes, they pretty much go through what ever looks like it might have something of value in it. Since they have found banknotes in a couple of mine. Most everything that I get has been opened .
About the only way I can get around the chiefs in the postal system is to use FedEx, UPS or DHL. So when I swap notes, due to the expense, it has to be a rather large swap ..

I have made my map more simple. Since the amount of banknotes changed almost every day, it would be impossible for me to keep track with colours. I'm just trying to fill the world map red. Just a few white left.
And yes, I am country the East Caribbean, West and Central African notes for each country depending on the Country Letter. With Europe I have not counted the Euro (even though they follow the same system).
I haven't counted Yemen, even though I have notes from both Yemen Arab Republic and Democratic Republic of Yemen, I don't have from the modern united Yemen.
I have Gabon and Botswana on the way in, and today I could finally add The Bahamas.
Red = I have at least 1 banknotes from this country
White = I don't have any banknotes from this country
I am very proud of my soon completed Eritrea and South Sudan but also of my North Korean collection and my complete series of Zimbabwe.

I like collecting things that have some historical significance, and banknotes is no exception. I have too many to post, but here is one from my collection:
Shreveport, Louisiana: $5 Mar. 10, 1863 (Criswell-14)
One of the few Southern notes with an overtly patriotic vignette, this $5 depicts the South striking down the North and its eagle. The vignette is similar to, but not the same as, Duncan's vignette on the CSA $2 Treasury Note.

Blue = Both a coin and a banknote
Orange = just a banknote
Green = just a coin
Grey = neither
Some rare banknotes include South Carolina 75 cent banknote, British Malta, Canada Devil's Ear banknote, Montenegro banknote from 1915, US $5 and $10 bill from 1950, and South Vietnam banknotes

Mexican banknotes, before the 20's and after the 10's its a disaster (likely mexican coins during the revolution) because almost every state had his own coinage and banknotes, adding people really hated banknotes, until the 20's it became common, but before the people used to bury or burn them

I collect all manner of banknotes as a secondary collection, got maybe 400-500 on my last count which is a mix of old, new and rare. I try and buy them in when I can but do not search for elusive or expensive banknotes.
I get a few banknotes and coins donated to me through my You Tube Channel which is always nice as I can return the favor by sending them coins

I also like to collect banknotes. I mainly started it as a side collection, but in comparison to coins, banknotes are way cheaper to send by mail than coins and so the notes kinda took over my main collection of coins. I'm still interested in coins, but currently I like notes better because of the beautiful images some contain. By the way if anyone is interested, I've got 58 different banknotes for swap that I would like to exchange for other notes to fill up my collection.

I am more of a coin collector but I do have a small collection of Indian banknotes as well. I generally look for banknotes with interesting serial numbers, like solid numbers, super solid numbers etc. Apart from that, I have a few old currency notes from India as well!

Unfortunately yes, for this site, but there might be other websites that are more interactive. If you find one, let us know. And yes, hopefully Numista add this soon.

I think I googled 'png world map' and this was one hit (without the blue sea) there are more complex once but filling them as a bit tedious. Then I simply used paint and the paint bucket et voilà.
Just don't use jpeg or other compressed formats ... with those artifacts filling the countries is no fun.

Here is my country collection using paint. The colors are strictly to show separation of the countries, not a count. For most countries, I only have one or two notes.
All told, I have notes from 177 different countries.
