When I decided to collect crown coins, I thought I was on a simple collecting thread just picking them from the various British Protectorates.

However, the more Crowns I got , the more I realised that there are sets galore within each country , there are birds, planes, boats ,medals ,War to name but a few . It's endless but fun of course to try and get a complete set.

Now to complicate matters further , I have come across the Preserve Planet Earth series. Collectors will know better than me but it's the first time I have seen a theme straddle more than one country . Is this common , are there others and is there a list somehere of the complete set.

i might as well know before I get my first few how big my task is ?

Now collecting one coin from each country or one coin for every date seems appealing. Still I'm not complaining really - if it were too easy it wouldn't be much of an achievement would it.

Thanks all. I'm trying to buy some dinosaur ones.

On reflection, quite a few countries have FAO coins don't they.

I collect the WWF 1974-1978 series. It's a surprisingly tough challenge as some countries are scarce. Around 60 to collect in total. km#x.a designation is 0.90 ag

There's a little information on them here:

The ones I currently have are mostly listed in my collection here https://en.numista.com/echanges/voir_collection.php?id=72567" rel="nofollow">http://https://en.numista.com/echanges/voir_collection.php?id=72567

Note, not all the coins are in the numista catalogue.

Wow, all of a sudden my target doesn't seem quite as daunting as yours as certainly less pricy than yours.

The trouble, for me , unlike many collectors say pick up coins from coin fairs , however there are none near me at all - so it's eBay or nothing.

Also, there's an anomaly which the forum might comment on....

Hardly anyone swaps crown size coins on Numista - which could lead you to think hardly anyone collects them. Then anytime they come on sale on eBay there are bids galore (at ridiculous prices)? Which would lead you to believe loads of people collect them.

Both statements can't be true I'm puzzled.B.
