Hi All,
I have this coin
https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces11627.html. The date seem like a repunch but I am not sure. The coin was in a holder with a pc of paper and I am trying to decipher what the paper says. Images below. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,
Aaron

when you look to the
catalog, you find that there is no possibility of overstrike

Aaron,
At least one mistake in the note - 4 kopecks of Piotr III 1762 is Bitkin# 624 while B#533-543 are actually silver roubles of tsar Ioann Antonovich minted in 1741.
Though the diameter and weight of 4 kop 1762 and 2 kon 1765(6) (Red mint) are very similar, the device is quite different and unless you can find any leftover of the 4 kop device on your coin, I would seriously doubt that this is an overstrike. And there is no mentioning in Bitkin catalog of any overstrike of 2 kop minted in 1765-1766 at Red mint.

Thank you both. Any idea on the "6" looking like that?

IMHO it's clearly 1765 with some dirt on the dies - a rather common case for the low-tech Russian minting of that time.

It seems indeed an overstrike on 4 Kopecks 1762.
I circled the area behind St.George where banners from 4 Kopecks are sort of visible. The marked area below has something not belonging to 2 Kopecks design, probably it's a part of the gun from 4 Kopecks.
The coin is dated 1765 with MM mint mark.
The paper also refers to an estimate by Petrov sale catalogue of 1900 (1 Rouble).
The condition of the coin is far from the best. A more recent Russian catalogue Wolmar (June 2016) estimates this coin in VF in 5 US dollars.

Sure there could be more or less of the previous design remaining.
On this following example, it's more obvious on the reverse face while you don't see any trace on the obverse:

Wow. Even though the coin is not in the best condition this overstrike makes it all the more interesting for me.
thanks both for your input.

Based on the conclusion that this coins is an overstrike. I was wondering exactly how to classify it. I want to leave a note with this coin. What exactly would be the proper terminology for me to write? I want it to be clear enough so if someone who did not know about it would understand what I am trying to give over in writing.
Thanks
Aaron

I would suggest: "Overstrike on 4 Kopecks 1762"

Did some reading on restrikes of that period - according to some sources, Moscow Mint (= Red Mint, mintmark MM) did not minted any brand new 2 kopeck between 1763 and 1778, they only restriked 4 kopecks issued in 1762. Funny thing is that some of those 4 kopeck of 1762 were themselves the restrikes of the previous issues. Which means that some coins may bear the leftovers of more than one previous device...
