UK coins without the sovereign's bust on obverse side

9 posts
Been browsing my UK collection this morning and realised that there are 4 coins, that do not have to sovereign's bust on obverse side.
This is the 4 coin gold set commemorating the 500th Anniversary of the Gold Sovereign. (½ Sovereign-KM#955, 1 Sovereign-KM#956, 2 Pounds-KM#957 & 5 Pounds-KM#958).

Does anyone know if this situation happened on any previous coins?

As I do not collect many coins prior to 1900, there may be many more, but these are the only coins I know of.

Be very interested in any answers received.

You do not have KM#957 or 958 listed in your collection.
Coins of the Commonwealth from 1649-1660 do not depict a sovereign, there having been no sovereign to depict.

A number of gold coins from the Plantagenets through the Tudors do not depict the sovereign and neither do some lower denomination Tudor and Stuart coins. Also without portraits are several Civil War issues in the name of Charles I.

Once upon a time, I tried to assemble a numismatic portrait gallery of English monarchs. Unfortunately, I ran out of money before I ran out of kings and queens.
Nathan,
I do not have any of my GB coins listed on Numista. I want to keep them separate, so only list the rest of the world.

The 1977 25 pence does not have the bust of the Queen on it.

It has got The Queen riding a horse on the Obverse, so actually it has her whole body.

Mike,
Do any Australian coin appear without the portrait on the obverse side?

Then this reproduction of an early coin with no bust...

Then there are these commemorative coins that have a tiny bust ...

There are a few other Australian coins that have the tiny bust too. For instance all of he 2016 50 Years of decimal currency issues had the tiny bust.

rose farthings and maltravers farthings do not have the monarchs head on the obverse
we do not own our coins, we are merely guardians of them for future generations.
