Hi

I have a Elizabeth 1 Crown which I believe to be real but there is conflicting information on the internet so I'm not sure if it is - has anyone got any advice. The coin weighs 19g and is silver, it varies in thickness from 1.6mm - 2.0mm around the coin and has flat edges amd overall diameter is 42mm.

Hello,
Let me figure out, Silvers are never about 19gm of weight, they are about more than 25 or 30 gms. And I think the edge looks suspicible milling or reeded rim... And the surface now, it also has a forced patina which anyone may have applied something...or burn , using machines.

P.S. - I think this topic should be moved to "Coin Identifications and Valuations"

I think my advice helps.

Kind Regards
Subha

I wouldn't trust anythink under a weight of 29.2 g here. Looked up several from known auction houses and all weigh between 29.49 and 29.94
also not a halfcrown as the weight would be between 14.5 and 15g.

Im no expert for that but there is still the chance that it is a contemporary counterfeit.

So what if you won't trust that the coin is under 29.2 g???????? CMDM clearly say it is 19 gm but there is no crown no silver under 25 Grams and it is a TRUE FAKE.

Thank you all for your help - it looks like this one can be safely thrown away then.

Sorry if my post has caused any arguments between you all.
