With MPCC starting, I would like to ask:
What are the most beautiful commemorative coins that cost less than €10?

Of course, I do not expect silver, gold or even proof.
But many commemorative coins do have a great design, and some of them are quite delicate!

Here is a list found by me and you all, thanks to your generous efforts:
AFGHANISTAN
1995 - 50 Afghanis (UN) (8.97 Euros)

ALBANIA
1969 - 1 Lek (3.49 Euros)

AUSTRALIA
1977 - Silver Jubilee (2.28 Euros)

AUSTRIA
1908 - 60th Anniversary of Reign (€7.99)
1928 to 1937 - 2 Schillings Series (€3.53)

CHINA
10 Yuan - Year of the Rooster (€1.5)

FINLAND
2012 - 5 Euros (Helsinki) (7.79 Euros)
2017 - 2 Euros (100 Years) (€4.69)

FRANCE
1986 - Statue of Liberty Centenary (€7.06)
1987 - General Lafayette (€9.45)
1988 - Fraternity (€3.53 )
1989 - Human Rights (bit too high)

GERMANY
1933 - 2 Reichsmarks of Martin Luther
1934, 1935 - 5 Reichsmark of Potsdam Garrison Church

NETHERLANDS
Various coins

SWEDEN
2009 - Separation from Finland (€4.14)

UNION OF SOVIET SOCIALIST REPUBLICS
Post-1965 - 1 Ruble (Commemoratives)

UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
1892 - Columbian Half Dollar
1923 - Monroe Half Dollar
1925 - Stone Mountain Half Dollar
1947 - Booker T. Washington Half Dollar
It is a shame you put post-1980, as there are many pre-1980 ones I can name for you....

'Great design' is highly subjective, but I can recommend some of the 1980s French silver 100 Francs (the ones with the common design of 'Liberté Égalité Fraternité' on their obverse (denomination side).

The 1986 Statue of Liberty Centenary one is cheap; (you could pay more and get one in piedfort).

The 1987 General Lafayette is my personal favourite.

The 1988 and 1989 'Fraternité' and 'Droits humains' are also great neo-classic designs that I strive for without success so far.
There are some nice stand alone designs as well as a few series that are quite nice. I think the 2009 Swedish 1 Krona celebrating the dissolution of the Finnish-Swedish Union is a gem of a coin. Design is simple and elegant.

For a series, I actually really like the America the Beautiful Quarters. The designs are quite nice and well thought out. I think much better than the States and Territories set that preceded it.
Hmm...

I'll remove the post-1980.

Originally I thought it would be hard to find pre-1980...

So, the topic is now COMMEMORATIVE COINS WITH A GREAT DESIGN BELOW €10.

Thanks!
Best wishes,
SRL
Not neccesarily :)

I've seen some of the more common American classic half-dollars go for under €10, especially if they're circulated. Good candidates include the 1892 Columbian Half Dollar, 1923 Monroe Half, 1947 Booker T. Washington Half, and 1952 George Washington Carver Half. Depending on where you are, the 1925 Stone Mountain half can also be quite cheap.

If modern is your thing, plenty of the modern ones can be found for about €10 in UNC, some in original capsules (like the George Washington half dollar of 1982).

Alternatively, Canadian dollars from 1939, 1949, 1958, 1964, 1967 can be quite cheap too.

In Europe, the Weimar Republic's commemoratives are very expensive (and beautiful), but only one is 'cheaply available': The 1933 2 Reichsmarks of Martin Luther. You might try for some 5 Reichsmarks of the early Nazi era (Potsdam Garrison Church).

Otherwise, Soviet cupro-nickel commemorative 1 roubles from 1965 on are very cheap (1€). Czechoslovak pre-communist era commemoratives are also cheap in my experience, as are the Austrian 2 schillings series 1928-1937.

This one is a silver coin, it can be bought with under 10€, but depends on the seller. It also is a great historical item.

This one is interesting. Brand new, does not cost over 4€, and has an interesting design.

If you like aluminium coins, north korea has issued over 2g aluminium coins. They are pretty interesting. They can be rare but do not cost over 3€

What do you think about the 10 Yuan Year of the Rooster coin for 15 yuan?

This is also pretty interesting.
Where did you get those prices on the US half dollars? You may get the more common 3 (Columbian, Booker T and George W Carver) for about 15-20$ if they are circulated and if you keep an eye out. Some examples of the above can go for a lot of money...Booker T has some versions that cost 800$ by the book. Stone Mountain you could grab a decent one for something like 45-50 same goes for the Monroe Doctrine Half Dollar. There are a few others that you can get for around 80-100 like Rhode Island or Iowa. Under 10 Euros however is extremely unlikely but if you do find them for that buy them up and certainly let me know please :)

A few times a year the Dutch National Mint (KNM) issues commemoratives with some great designs, if you ask me. Most of the times they include a 5 euro coin which are sold for 5 euro; Red Cross, Johan Cruyff, Stelling van Amsterdam, Jheronymus Bosch (you gotta love Bosch :D)

Poland minted 200+ different commemorative coins (mainly 2 and 5 zlotych) for last 20 years. Almost all of them cost less than 10 EUR.

the link is a german coin...I was being a slight bit tongue in cheek...you may be able to get a couple at that price but by and large you can't...not that i discourage collecting them. It is my favorite project...I have about 15 types so far out of perhaps 42. I encourage everyone to get some especially at that price :)

Local stamp collector is selling the coin for 9€ (the prussian one) and it is a nice commemorative
Speaking of my first reply...

Today I purchased a 1988 'Fraternité' 100 Francs, and a 1989 'Droits humains' 100 Francs, both in beautiful UNC condition, and for €15 each.
Well done on the coins!
Will treat my coin collection better with a nice addition in Easter :)
This thread will be VITAL!

That sir is a solid deal! Enjoy
Here's even more:
The 1940 New Zealand 1/2 Dollar Centennial is quite cheap
So are most of the Australian commemorative florins (1927, 1951, 1954), except the 1934 Melbourne one.

Hong Kong issued a series of circulating commemorative coins from 10 cents to 10 dollars in 1997 for Retrocession to China. (but of course you probably know that ;))

Singapore's copper-nickel 2 Dollar commemorative coins can also be very cheap.

Spain's 1966 100 Pesetas in silver (might not be a commemorative necessarily) can be found for as low as 5€ in Madrid.

The 1960s and 1970s Italian commemorative coins (1961 Unification, 1970 Rome Capital Centennial) are also very cheap in Italy (single digit Euros).

West Germany issued circulating commemorative 2 Mark coins with Konrad Adenauer, Willy Brandt, and other important statesmen from the 1970s to 1990s.

A whole bunch of East German copper-nickel/nickel commemoratives (5 Marks) are very cheap (think 3€)

Yeah. He sells coins, but they are pretty rare. He only has a few habsburg austrian coins, 2 prussian coins and 1 swedish coin (silver ones) for sale. He does not know much about coins, stamps are his thing but occasionally people sell him silver coins. (Which leads to him selling the coins and adding about 50c/1e to the price) the coin sellers here are all so old that they use catalogs that are very many decades old.
As well as the 2 schilling Austrian coins, the 25 and 50 schilling are worth looking at and can be found at reasonable prices.
All the darkness in the world cannot hide the light of one small candle.
