Venetian Empire

Hi, I'm Clive and have just joined this site to try to catalogue some coins left to me by my father. He started collecting during the Second World War in the Middle East and here is the coin from Candia (Crete nowadays). I wonder if the inscription reads SANCT • MARC • VEN which could be short for Saint Mark Venice. The design looks like a Venetian Lion with sword possibly with a Bible but it's difficult to be sure. Has anyone here looked at this period and might have more information?

Thanks Zac, really interesting. Do you think the II indicates the value? Also looked at the DeaMoneta page but that coin has MAS under CANDIA rather than NC on mine but I can't find a Doge with those initials. How did you get the date? What/who is Paolucci 884?
The letters II are Roman numerals for the value 2 Soldi. Paolucci #884 is a catalogue reference.
Will look up more tonight.

I searched the CNI, there are coins of Candia, but not yours... :
