I am searching for cheaper patterns from 1500-1918, that I may one day sooner or later buy.

1 If the pattern is a "normal" looking coin, for example a silver pattern of a gold ducat (these aren't so rare) under 100€.

2 If the pattern is interesting, under 300€.

3 If the pattern is from Finland Or Has a mintage of under 20 or under 20 surviving pieces, and is quite interesting, I could pay 900€ for it.

(Also other interesting coins with a low mintage are accepted)

I already have a few ideas:

- A 1/2, 1 or 2 Dukat pattern coin from a German state, for example https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces149837.html or a similar coin. 1
- This tin 5 Francs pattern, or another 1848 pattern: https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces93106.html 2
Finland TS1, TS2 are interesting, but worth extremely much and extremely rare. Maybe one day!

I have a few ideas what I could buy now (I have about 80€)

Bolivia KM#Pn56, a brass pattern 50 Centavos.
Or patterns from the German states...
But any ideas are accepted
Take a look at France, they produced an ungodly amount of patterns, a lot of which can be had for reasonable prices.

In the mid and late 20th century a lot of French essais were produced (mintages in the thousands) for sale to collectors, and now they are selling relatively cheaply (around 40-50€).

But the French essais produced before 1918 are not so available and not so cheap.

Maybe living in the US where even the cheapest patterns cost $1000+ skew my perception, but a lot of patterns that came after the revolution in 1848 can be had for $80-$300 which I think are pretty cheap.

You probably have to sign in to see the prices, but I think these fit pretty well into OP's criteria.

Edit: here's some more.

Oh, if that's what you meant then you have a point, probably depends on perception of that word "cheap":

I was thinking more of the late 19th century and early 20th century pre-strikes, essais, and piéforts, of common coins, some of which are further out of reach than those 1848 essais in the 80-150 euro range: https://www.cgb.fr/essai-de-5-centimes-daniel-dupuis-1897-f-119-3-sup,v37_1296,a.html

Here's an particularly interesting essai I would recommend to OP:

These 5 Francs 1848 patterns are usually sold for something between 70 and 160€

The essai 10 and 20 centimes 1859 of Belgium are a lot cheaper. They are often sold for 100€ but currently someone is selling a really bad condition one on ebay for 30€.

This coin was bought an hour before I would've purchased it. I will probably buy a Ottoman gold coin this time, and a French essai next time.
There are some german patterns on sale today but I cant say how high the auctions will get:
