Wow, in October of the preceding year! (Actually, is that early for circulating coins to come out? I'm not 100% sure myself.)
I remember last year, I began adding the (NCLT) Singapore 2018 Lunar New Year Almanac coins around October/November, when they announced them; I'll probably be adding the 2019 ones soon.
About 25─30 years ago someone got a Canadian 25¢ (a.k.a. quarter) of the following year (I'm not sure now what year it was). This never happens in Canadian coinage issuing. So, what he did was to have it graded/authenticated by a major grading company with the holder pointing out that it is a quarter issued in year X (say 1988) with year Y (say 1989) on the coin itself. I'm not sure whether it ever got on the market, or whether others were found, so I have no idea of its value.
So, you should check whether this is normal in Panama, and if not have it graded ASAP!
In the airports I always ask " new and shiny " coins at each one of the exchange offices in exchange of old coins.
Sometimes they are willing to help you sometimes they are indifferent.
Now you should start the "Anyone found some 2019 coins in circulation yet?" thread
I hoped to find some 2018 dated 25 ruble coins in 2017 (the first ones got officially released in December 2016, actually, though an inconvenient holiday schedule prevented them from being widely available before February 2017), but, sadly, the poor things just do not circulate.
(Still haven't seen any of those in circulation, despite regularly asking - did see two or three examples of the 2011-14 Sochi types, but none of the 2018 World Cup types. Did spend a few, but that doesn't count.)
If I am not mistaken, in 1975 quarters, half dollars and dollars were released with the 1976 date to celebrate the country's 200th birthday. No quarters halves or dollars bore the 1975 date.

But in general it's worth the hassle.
Got it last week in another transit at Tocumen ;)
