For some reason I can't find American nickles when I search the catalog. It's hard for me to imagine that a 2005 P Buffalo nickle isn't registered yet. Then I just broke down and typed "nickle" in search and I got 2 coins that weren't even nickles! Is there something I'm doing wrong?

Correct spelling would help - it is nickel
https://en.numista.com/catalogue/index.php?mode=avance&p=1&l=&r=&e=&d=&ca=3&no=&i=&v=nickel&m=&a=&t=&dg=&w=&u=&f=&g=&c=&tb=y&tc=y&tn=y&tp=y&tt=y&te=y&cat=y
Of those two results you found, they had errors which I now corrected;
one is pending and one I changed myself. Welcome to the site.

I'm sorry, now I feel a bit silly. I find that it helps to Google whatever coin I’m trying to catalog and type “Numista” after it and the right coin in Numista will likely pop up in the results. Anyway, thank you!
