Hello,

here are the Flags of German States to be added into the County List. It is not full complete but should be enough to be added to the list, missing ones can be added at a later stage.
I have so far refrained from adding banners but it might be a must for the older states but again that can be done later.
Some older States minted under common imperial decret share the same flag of the Holy Roman Empire.
I hope either Xavier or someone else can format them and add them to the list.

It was the Flag of Waldeck-Pyrmont before becoming the German Flag we know today.

Yes, let me rephrase that - how did Germany choose this one? Did they were just looking at what their historical countries offered?

The colors Black/Red/Gold where always prominent throughout German History in the flag of the Holy Roman Empire. Later in 1813 three striped Black/Red/Gold flags were used by troops in Eastern Germany in the campaigns to liberate German lands against Napoleon, where this flag became a symbol of hope and freedom.
In 1848 in the Bundestag the colours where chosen to be the National colours of Germany, as a symbol of a republic revolutionaries looked at the Flag of France after the french revolution of that year, which became why the Germany Flag has three colored horizontal line.

Many of these flags are really "young" but probably the best compromise and we don't need a gif with 5 to 15 different flags (8.
I always had problems choosing flags for my own coin list for the German States because I wanted the right flag for the period. The problem most of the smaller ones don't have flags only a coat of arms they put on the colors of their current overlord (at least in the medieval period).

Hi,

I can batch process all the flags to fit the template. Some samples here, the rest in the google folder above.

It seems to work okay, although some might need a bit of fixing.

It helps if all the flags are in a folder with the naming convention Xavier needs. Aspect ratio should be as close to 7:6 as possible. Then they all get done in seconds. Otherwise it takes a bit of time to save each file individually.

Any feedback welcome

Best

Some of the flags have two versions (e.g. Bishopric of Augsburg, Bishopric of Bamberg and other bishopric states). With and without supporters for the coat of arms. Pick the one you like better.

Thanks for this huge work!
I uploaded the flags. You should see them if you clear your cache (or wait a few days) and refresh the page.

And thanks for this great collection Vicinius!

I've started a new thread here, as there are still some open questions and maybe we shouldn't hijack the German flags (;0, they still need work.

My intention is always to help, I like to see the flags in each country, I recently did a search and I have a file with the flags of almost all countries of the numista.
