Hello I just got my silver proof set in and was disappointed that there was all ready hazing on the Lowell quarter but with inspection under a loupe it seemed like the ‘hazing’ looks like the cameo in the background which was not supposed to happen. What do you guys think?

everyone please pitch in on what you think.

To me, that might be a miss handling that cause it to have this hazing effect. Just like those silver bullion where there are milking spots. Need a second opinon.

When I got my medal, I was also very furious. Because I do not mind the custom people opened up and check. I do mind the people also open the capsule and check. There is saw a finger print. Thanks to them, I had to wipe it away cause micro scratches which cannot be seen to prevent future damage.

No, I'm 99% sure it's not hazing. Using a loupe it has the small dots on the background for the cameo just like the devices.

For me it looks like a wall and as such intentional, the problem is we only have cgi images of many of the quarters and they don't depict real coins.

I couldn't really see if the set in this video had the same "issue"

Yes. I think he is correct. It is a wall and the window. Looking it closely, there is a frame.

I sent a email to NGC but they said that they will need to see the coin in person to determine if it’s a mint error. I never submitted a coin to any grading company. Anyone have a idea how?

And if others could pitch in their opinion about if the coin is a error it would be greatly appreciated

then why is it perfectly only on 1 side of the coin being split by a device?

If that is the case, maybe there are 3 variants? I am not really sure. This sure is a tricky one.

I know I did send a message to NGC buy they said they will have to view it in person to determine if it’s a error. I do it think I’m going to do that just yet because for 2 reasons
1. I will lose money on the grading cost if it is not a error - I might get opinions from local coin shops
2. I will have to send in the whole quarter proof set

I'm not sure if it would be considered to be an error, or just a strike from a very worn die. I suggest you use this link to find an authorized dealer in your area:
https://www.ngccoin.com/services/dealer-listing.aspx

The dealer should also be able to provide you with a free opinion. Additionally, you don't have to submit the whole set, but be careful if you decide to crack it open yourself.

I don’t believe it’s a worn die. The cameo on the rest of the coin is fairly strong

Hi

Can you not contact the mint directly and ask for an initial opinion based on a good quality photograph? I know our Mint, The Royal Mint in the UK, are very helpful and if after they have checked the photograph, they think it has merit, they will ask for it to be sent in for assessment and will issue a letter of confirmation of it being a genuine error, free of charge. You pay the postage costs of course.
