1979 5p Error Coin

3 posts
Hi, I got this 5p piece when I was a kid in the 1980s and just came across it again when I was doing some cleaning.

Is this severity of error particularly rare or worth anything?

Thanks.

definity i would say not sure if its in the 50-100 pound or like 100-500 pound region, it would depend on how common this double/over strike was.

This is a very sexy coin, I like your estimates. In my limited experience bidding on British error coins, back when I was a dealer, is that the prices achieved varied considerably. Pieces like this are not common and are sought after, so I would expect it to achieve a good price at auction. I would expect to pay £100+ I think £500 is excessive. What do others think?
