I have a 2007 abolition of slavery coin. The opposite side to the queens head is smooth the inscription around the rim is upside down to the queens head. Is this valuable

Normal - it is 50/50 which way the inscription is
the inscription around the rim is upside down to the queens head

Need to see a picture - maybe someone just filed it down
The opposite side to the queens head is smooth

Here is this recent topic about one side smooth, with a picture ...

So if the raised rim is there it may be an error - otherwise if
the complete surface is smooth it has been deliberately changed.
When the discs are cut from a sheet they next have the rim created -
whereupon the disc is called a planchet.
