1853 liberty 2 1/2 dollar coin Strange marking [solved]

There is a marking at the mouth of lady liberty. I don't know if someone stamped it onto the coin or if it was made that way at the mint. I haven't been able to find any information concerning this mark. I would be very grateful for any information you might have. Thank you

There are thousands of coins with a letter, number or symbol punched on them. It is, however, quite unusual to find such countermarks on gold.

Countermarks of a single letter or number are usually impossible to identify. Here is a thread I started all about countermarks. There is also a Numisdoc.
