Signature [solved]

When it comes to wheat pennies, many entries say “with signature”. Which signature?

I do not know why it is called a signature - it is the V D B initials of the designer.

But isn't VDB only on 09's?

In 1909 only it is on the reverse.

Which it shows down that page.
Starting 1918 it has, like you said, a list of each year saying 'with signature'
and also on that page it shows a 1925 date, for example, but yet the
description for that 1925 has the obverse saying VDB is on there.
So it is small letters below the portrait - which is what those two
links mention I think. My original point is initials are not a signature!
