Be nice he’s over 100 years old he wants to know why it’s ok for third party grading companies to clean/restore coin but he shouldn’t be able to.

Sorry, It is never my intention not to be nice or to offend someone. I only ask him to write some understandable language, no matter his age. Usually (very) old people write much better than the younger generations.
If he is 100 years, he should also know coincleaning/'restoring' is something, a serious collector will not even think about...

I totally agree with you on this  !!

Generally speaking everywhere collectors will tell never clean a coin as it will reduce its price ,natural patina will loss coin surface will erode etc etc
Yes its 100 % true , But here is a big secret business .One have to understand coins are not natural occurring things ,coins are minted through machines ,there composition of metal is selected ,graded by experts, its a man made thing .So cleaning a coin is not at all a common mans game .To be more accurate "Restoration" This requires a through Knowledge of metallurgy, special equipments, paticular chemicals and a good investment. The Professionals do the job in such a quality that a very seasoned collector can never ever judge that a coin is cleaned /Restored.They will take a dirty coin clean it and put back the patina as desired 50 years ,100 years 200 years...That's not at all a big thing ,its simply a technique and equipments.
We live in 21st century we have such technology that we cannot believe everything what we see by our naked eyes.Only by special machines a true age of a coin ,its patina / cleaned, uncleaned can be determined .Its all business and investment,So I think as a collector the coins are your it's up to you what you enjoy. Cleaning your coin or keep them as they are as you can never do a True Restoration /Cleaning at you home .
coin collector.....
Ahoj.
This is for strong nerves. Those with a weak heart-turn off the monitor immediately, it's about health.
Please use common sense, most older coins were sometimes cleaned, the archaeologist's procedure sometimes scared me.
In the sale of auction houses is to issue all the procedures.
In my opinion, they could only clean coins that would otherwise they were unidentified and lost in rust and mud for generations to come.
Now the appetizer:
-There are several manufactories in southern Europe, an enterprising man employs several older ladies there, buys bags of antique-Rome coins. Coins are washing in washing machines -chemical baths, then the brushes on the line. Finally, under the microscope they turn-font is cutting and then polish.
So what clever who buys it? Where is the demand for perfection? Who has them in the collection?
half is already done/ please, it's not mine, no/

Ivan
I see where you wrote you do not post much, but there are 12 posts in this thread alone!

I am just teasing, but from my limited understanding, people get excited about cleaning, and not just coins.
I was not wrong then, I am more correct now.
