Is there a catalog of German notgeld? If I see a reference for a 1920 Kitzingen 50 Pfennig note that says (9148) - what does 9148 refer to?
Also, how common are counterfeit notgeld? They are very plentiful and cheap and I know a lot of them went straight to collectors, but I recently got a batch that seem "hot off the press".

The main banknote catalogue for German Notgeld is Grabowski, but there are a few others, which seems to be on a website, which I do not know of. Try googling Grabowski.
The catalogue is very difficult to find. It took me a few years to get mine, but worth the wait.
As for copies/fakes. It seems rather strange that these are highly copied, as most are reasonable cheap. There are obviously rarer ones, so these may well be copied. How you tell the difference might be difficult, especially without the catalogue.
Have a look at the Colnect website, where there are over 23,000 listed, and I have just over 1,600

Reference 9148.
Have just spent a little time on the Colnect website and I cannot find any reference to a Kitzingen 50 Pfennig with that being part of its catalogue number.
There are 12 different 50 Pfennig banknotes listed in Kitzingen but none uses that number anywhere.
There seems to be four main catalogues for German Notgeld.
Gei: Geiger
Gra: Grabowski
GrM: Grabowski/Mehl
Tie: Tieste
I got the Tieste catalogue from the internet, but do not understand their numbering system. The first part is easy, but the sub numbers are quite difficult to fathom out.
Example
Tie:2345.05.06 not a real number
Tie:2345 is the main number and that is easy, but the other numbers are harder to ascertain.
Colnect is well worth a visit.
23,709 German Notgeld as of today listed

I have about 2 dozen notgeld notes I'd like to identify... other than colecnet, is there another good source? I've found a couple that are not online.
Does Numista list paper notgeld?
Thanks,
B.

If you firstly look on Colnect to identify the Notgeld you have, and if there are some that you cannot find, just take photographs of both sides and put them on this forum.
I will do my best to help you with catalogue number.
Numista does not have a banknote section, only coins.
I have 1,600 with another 60 on their way. Some due today, and the others on Monday

Did you manage to sort out the banknotes as per forum request?
Just inquisitive, that's all
