The Royal Mint is the world's leading export mint, making coins and medals for an average of 60 countries every year. However, its first responsibility is to make and distribute United Kingdom coins as well as to supply blanks and official medals.
we walked through the entrance to the royal mint. the staff were kind and were happy to help. we went to the shop and spent a lot on coins (and chocolate)! then we went on the tour. we first watched a video on the royal mint. then we went to see how the coins are produced then we got to make our own coin (called strike your own)
an amazing day out for coin collectors or people thinking about collecting.
Entrance includes a guided tour with a host who is knowledgeable about the materials and the processes used. You are able to view, through windows, where the coins are being manufactured. Your tour includes optional extras of being photographed with a fortunes worth of pound coins and an opportunity of striking your own coin. There is a comprehensive shop that includes a chance to purchase the latest available coins and the usual tourist souvenirs.
