Obverse
The obverse of the coin depicts the coat of arms of the Republic of Kazakhstan. On the circumference of the coin is the inscription "5000 ТЕҢГЕ", denoting the face value of the coin, "ҚАЗАҚСТАН РЕСПУБЛИКАСЫ" in the state language and "REPUBLIC OF KAZAKHSTAN" in English, also there are the inscriptions "Ag 925 1kg" denoting the metal from which the coin is made, its test and mass.

On the back of the coin is a collage of iconic buildings of Astana. In the upper part there is an inscription "АСТАНА" and a stylized holographic image of the sky. In the lower part there is a stylized image of the number "20" filled with a holographic image of the national ornament, the inscription "ЖЫЛ" and the inscription "1998-2018", indicating the year of formation of the capital of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the year of coinage.
