Comments

This coin received the award for the world's best coin of 2001. The obverse is based on the 500 Pesetas coin from 1987, commemorating the silver jubilee of the King and Queen. The reverse is that of the first Peseta coin designed in 1869 by Marchioni.

The design of the reverse appeared in the first national issue of pesetas of 1869.
