Comments

Both " Dérém" and " Dalasi " come from the Arabic word "Dirham", but modified in Wolof and Mandinka languages.

It is important to note that the number "8" in value does not have any relation with local names. Both "Dérém" and "Dalasi" mean "4 shilling - valued coin", and not translation of English word "Shilling" . So, derem nyaar and dalasi fula mean "two parts of basic currency" That is why local names in 1966 coins appear only from 4 Shilling valued coin, and not from lower.
