Comments

The legends on this denarius are not clearly legible and do not necessarily correspond to the reading given by the reference authors. However, the motif on the reverse is clearly established as a calvary, the type of denarius given to Richard II by J. Duplessy or Richard II (996-1026) or Richard III (1026-1027) by F. Dumas (RN, 1979, p.92 and pl.XVII n° 8-11). The cross is flanked by two crescents. A very rare denarius, examples of which can be found in the Sombor treasury in Hungary (Dumas 55 p.121-122).
