250th anniversary of the National and University Library

Obverse

Slightly tilted National and University Library’s doorhandle with Pegasus, a winged divine stallion, used as a symbolic guide for library’s visitors to the world of knowledge by the architect Jože Plečnik, is displayed on the coin. Doorhandle is the first contact with the institution that invites us to the world of knowledge and inspiration. At the top, in semi-circle, is the inscription “NARODNA IN UNIVERZITETNA KNJIŽNICA“. At the bottom are the name of the country of issuance “SLOVENIJA” and the year of issuance “2024”.

The coin’s outer ring depicts the 12 stars of the European flag.

Reverse

A geographical map of Western Europe spans the outer ring and inner core on the right side of the coin. The inscription 2 EURO is superimposed over the map of Europe, with the numeral “2” located in an open field representing the eastern Atlantic Ocean. 12 stars are located on the right side of the outer ring, with six stars atop the map of Europe and six stars below it; six vertical stripes cut across the inner core of the coin, visually connecting the upper and lower star segments.
