Series: Proto Boar

Obverse

Boar left with Y-shaped forelegs, long uncurled tail, sometimes bristles. Sometimes wheel above. Ringed pellets around. Sometimes obliterated so only part of boar is visible.

Reverse

Horse left, bifurcated upper front legs, belt and sometimes collar, often dashes for mane. Wheel or pellet ring above. Somestimes ringed pellets around.

Comments

Rich Type 34, ‘Decorated Boar Left', middle period, all badly worn dies:
Rich Type 34a (BMC 3238-9): 19 on CCI (1 obverse, 3 reverse dies). Spoked wheel above boar, ringed pellets in front, below and under pellet exergual line, hair curl in front, small ring by nose. Pellet in pellet ring above horse with dashes for mane (Chris Rudd List 178, 9 Aug 2021, lot 22).
Rich Type 34b: 2 on CCI (2 obverse, 1 reverse dies). Large pellet ring above boar, ringed pelltes above, in front and below. Spoked wheel above horse with no mane, ringed pellets in front and below.
Rich Type 34c: 3 on CCI (1 obverse, 1 reverse die). Boar partly obliterated, ringed pellet below. Pellet ring above horse with dashes for mane, pellet behind, ring below.
