Comments

The bearded vulture (Gypaetus barbatus), also known as the lammergeier and ossifrage, is a very large bird of prey in the monotypic genus Gypaetus. The bearded vulture is the only known vertebrate whose diet consists of 70–90% bone.

The bearded vulture ("trencalòs" in catalan, official language of Andorra, literally meaning “bone breaker”) is an emblematic species of the country and which is threatened, for this reason, the Government awarded the bearded vulture recovery plan in December 2024, along with eight other species of passerine birds in danger of extinction.
