34 in Sills.
The above counts include duplicates. Wild A Central Stalk (Sills 552, Sills 553) and Wild A Decorated (Sills 556, Sills 557) are usually attributed as Wild A Rounded Leg (ABC 2777), such as in the Celtic Coin Index.
Van Arsdell Classification: Trinovantian V, Coinage of Cunobeline, Restoration Period (Heavy Staters), Wild Type Gold Coins. VA 1931 - 09: No central stalk, pellet above A, three pellets above M.
Sills Wild A, Decorated (4 obverse, 7 reverse dies): North Thames Coinage; Type: Cunobelinus; Staters: Class 3c - Wild A, Decorated. There is a parallel between the base of the stalk on this and Wild A Rounded Leg (ABC 2777) and Verica's Vine Leaf (Sills 366), so that it is likely the same die cutters worked on both (although which came first is not known). The cross above the horse's body may signify that the die was recut from Wild A Rounded Leg (and was then copied on later dies). The last reverse die (without a cross) is in the Wild B style (such as ABC 2780), with wiry lettering for CVNO and a sharp dog-leg joint on the horse's second leg.
Sills DK 556: Stem has symmetrical tendrils springing from a V-shape or angled line. Cross above the horse. Three variants:
- Pellet triad above M (see CCI 82.0253). This is Chris Rudd's ‘Long Tendrils’ (Chris Rudd List 168, 9 December 2019, lot 36).
- Pellet triad above CA.
- Pellet above A, triad above M. This is Chris Rudd's ‘Ornate Tendrils’ (Chris Rudd List 172, 10 August 2020, lot 33).
Sills DK 557: Stem springs from upturned arcs. Two variants:
- No pellets on obverse. Cross above the horse.
- Pellet triad below CA. No cross above the horse (see CCI 03.0113).
The equivalent quarters are the Wild A Angled Leg (Sills DK 577) and Wild A Rounded Leg (ABC 2816).
Sills chronology: Gallo-Belgic Ca - British G (Early Clacton) / Aa Westerham - British La (Whaddon Chase) - British Lb (Westbury) - Addedomaros - Dubnovellaunos - Tasciovanos - Cunobelinus (Biga - Linear - Wild - Plastic - Classic).
