Comments

The Spanish Royal Mint (FNMT-RCM) presents the second installment of its Jewels of the "Casa de la Moneda" Museum collection in 2025. This series continues the tribute begun in 2023 to the most emblematic pieces housed in the Royal Mint Museum, and this second issue will be released on November 17, 2025. This second issue is dedicated to coins minted in the Americas and comprises six coins: three silver and three gold, all in Proof quality.

The Guatemala City Mint was established in 1731 by Philip V, and until 1773 its coins bore the mint mark “G”. Following the devastating earthquake of 1773, the mint was moved to the newly founded city of Nueva Guatemala, where the mint mark changed to “NG”. This 8-escudo coin is particularly noteworthy as a unique example, known only from its existence in the collection of the Royal Mint Museum of Spain. It is preserved in excellent condition.
