This medallion was issued to celebrate the 225th Anniversary of the United States. It was made partly due to the strong times between the two countries at the time, along with hopes they would sell after the September 11th incident. Prices were $19.95 USD for the sterling version and $12.95 USD for the cupro-nickel version. The sterling medallion was sold in a green leatherette case with felt lining, whereas the copper nickel medallions were sold in either a blue leatherette case with felt lining or a plastic “blister pack”. An article published by the Philadelphia Inquirer regarding these medallions can be found here, along with a discussion about the medallions by a forum user.
