Stratford Market opened in 1879 and closed in 1991 it was mainly a wholesale fruit and vegetable market

These were returns deposit tokens - you purchase a container with goods inside and given a token on sale completion. Upon returning the token and empty container you are given your deposit cash back. 

Traders often cut a section out of the token to identify their own tokens if they were generic issued and did not have the stall name present on them.
