Kazakh State Academic Drama Theater was established in late 1925 in city of Kyzylorda, then the capital of Kazakh SSR. In 1928, after the transfer of the capital to Almaty, the theater was also moved there. In 1982, the theater moved to its current and permanent location, the building of which is depicted on the medal. The design for the new building was approved in 1972 (construction began at the same time), which is why its image appeared on the medal commemorating the theater's 50th anniversary.
