Indian Wampum Memorial Monument - 3 TYPES - CCNP-23NS / CCNP-23BA (Finition Antique) / CCNP-23S (SILVER)

IN AUGUST 1965 PLANS WERE MADE FOR THE INDIAN WAMPUM MONUMENT. SINCE WAMPUM WAS THE FIRST CURRENCY USED BY THE FIRST NORTH AMERICAN INDIANS TO TRADE WITH THE WHITE MAN, IT SEEMED VERY FITTING TO HAVE THIS SYMBOLIZED IN THE PARK. IN MAY 1966 THE WAMPUM REPLICA WAS CONSTRUCTED OF SIMULATED BEADS, MEASURING 6 FEET IN LENGTH, ARRANGED ON EIGHT  12-FOOT-HIGH CEDAR LOGS. IN FRONT OF THIS WERE 2 LIFELIKE REPLICAS OF A TRADER AND AN INDIAN DRESSED IN THE FASHION OF PIONEER DAYS. IN FROM OF THE TRADER IS A 25 FOOT TOTEM POLE COVERED WITH STRANGE FACES AND ANIMAL FIGURES. THESE TELL THE HISTORY AND ANCESTRY OF EACH CHIEF IN THE CLAN AS SEEN THROUGH THE EYES OF THE CARVER.

THIS 6 TH SERIES OF COINS IS MUCH MORE RARER THAN THE 5 SETS OF 3 ISSUED ORIGINALLY, EACH IN NICKEL, BRONZE AND .999 SILVER.
