Comments

Victoria Civera Redondo, born in Puerto de Sagunto, Valencia, in 1955, is a Spanish artist who combines photography, painting, installation, and sculpture in her work. Between 1973 and 1977, she studied at the San Carlos Higher School of Fine Arts in Valencia, and she first gained recognition in the 1980s for her work in action painting, which later evolved into a neo-expressionist style. Since the mid-1980s, she has lived in New York with her husband, the artist Juan Uslé, with whom she occasionally collaborates, alternating between photography, photomontage, and painting. Her current iconographic repertoire focuses on the female image, including fairy-like girls, defiant and enigmatic young women, and sorrowful and anguished figures. The scope of the artist's sculptural work is broad and includes all kinds of materials: buckles, shoes, dresses, a whole set of specifically feminine materials and objects with which the artist seems to want to reflect on the role of women in contemporary societies.
