To mark the 100th anniversary of the death of Antoni Gaudí, Spain will celebrate the Year of Gaudí in 2026. The Royal Mint (FNMT) announced the launch of a numismatic series to commemorate the event. On Monday, March 23, 2026, the "Gaudí Centenary 2026" numismatic collection was issued, a series of seven commemorative coins that pay tribute to the genius of Catalan Modernism.
Antoni Gaudí i Cornet (25 June 1852 – 10 June 1926) was a Catalan architect and designer from Spain, known as the greatest exponent of Catalan Modernism. Gaudí's works have a highly individualized, sui generis style. Most are located in Barcelona, including his main work, the church of the Sagrada Família.
The Basílica i Temple Expiatori de la Sagrada Família is the largest unfinished Roman Catholic church in world and is located in Barcelona, designed by Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí (1852–1926). Gaudí's work on the building is part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and in November 2010 Pope Benedict XVI consecrated and proclaimed it a minor basilica.
