In the first action in history of men-of-war at sea and a large aerial bombing force, the British naval squadron which included the aircraft carrier H.M.S. "Ark Royal" was attacked 150 miles off the coast of Norway by 20 German bombers. Although there were no Royal Navy losses from the engagement, the Nazis claimed that the "Ark Royal" had been sunk and a battleship badly damaged.
