The Zimbabwe Gold (ZiG) has been the official currency of Zimbabwe since 8 April 2024, backed by US$575 million worth of hard assets: foreign currencies, gold, and other precious metals. It replaced the Zimbabwean dollar, which suffered from rapid depreciation. 

 

Unveiled on 3 March 2026, these ZiG notes have upgraded security features and new designs featuring the “Big 5” animals of Zimbabwe. They also feature graduated sizes and intaglio horizontal lines at left/right front for easier identification by the sight impaired
