Arabic legend in four lines, rendered in cursive script within an open field, bounded by simple curved ornamental lines above, sides and below; no enclosing border. The inscriptions along with ornamental lines are incused.
Script: Arabic
Lettering:
ضرب في
ترقانو
١٢٦٥
Unabridged legend: Duriba fi Trekanu 1265 sanat
Translation: Struct at Trengganu year 1265 (hijri)
Plain
Rounded
The reading “Trekanu” is from Singh's (1980) catalogue, which seems to be an Arabic style spelling for Trengganu as opposed to Malay style spelling ترڠݢانو
Singh read the first word as ضرب duriba (struck), but the letter forms involved seems to better read as صرف sarf (currency). Additionally, specimens do not show any trace of the word في fi. A better reading is perhaps sarf Trekanu صرف تركانو (currency of Terengganu).
