After the 1974 Revolution, Portugal went through a period of intense political, social, and military upheaval, with various forces attempting to influence the country's political direction. On November 25, 1975, moderate forces thwarted an attempted military coup aligned with the radical left, paving the way for democratic stabilization based on pluralism, political legitimacy, and the popular will, which would culminate in the 1976 Constitution.
