Following Japan's surrender in 1945, the Imperial Japanese Navy was completely dissolved. The vast academy grounds on Etajima were taken over by the Allied Occupation forces. The historic infrastructure was repurposed as an Allied training camp and logistical headquarters, officially designated as APO 354 Eta Jima School Command.
