Comments

It is a counterfeit in gilding metal plated copper of Spanish 10 Escudos in gold from 1868. Differences with the base type:

  • Much lower quality engraving.
  • Lettering obverse
    • year without dot at left,
    • “G” above head, instead of above forehead.
  • Reverse:
    • rough and asymmetrical crown,
    • “S” in “10 ES” is too large and too high, and the bottom dot is missing,
    • “N”  in “ESPAÑAS” is deformed and with a dot above (“Ṅ”) instead of a tilde (“Ñ”).

The main example on the page has one hole made after minting. It is worn and the word POR in obverse looks like POP.

Marks of the base type

🟌 – Royal Mint of Madrid (Real Casa de la Moneda de Madrid), Spain (1591-date)
